You read that right, former TNA Knockout Alissa Flash has made history by becoming the first woman to hold the top championship that’s supposed to be held by men only!

Yesterday, Saturday July 3rd, at River City Wrestling’s “Declaration of Champions” event in San Antonio, Texas, Flash was victorious in a match over RCW Champion Joey “Super Shot” Spector, and as a result became the first female to hold the top title of the independent promotion!

“What an event Declaration of Champions was! Alissa Flash is the new RCW Champion!” The official Twitter page for RCW – twitter.com/rcwforever – posted today.

Flash, who also wrestles across the indy scene, most notably for SHIMMER Women Athletes, as Cheerleader Melissa, is no stranger to breaking ground in wrestling. In 2004 she was awarded the “Future Legend Award” by the prestigious Cauliflower Alley Club, which would later become the basis of her “Future Legend” nickname in TNA, and is the only woman to receive the award.

On behalf of the webteam here at M-A.org, we want to congratulate Melissa on her win! We know this is a huge honor for her, and we are extremely proud of Melissa. Keep up the great work Melissa!

Melissa has finally gotten back to us with the answers for our interview with us, and it’s a really awesome read, so be sure to check it out! Huge thanks goes out to all the fans who sent in their questions, and an even bigger thanks to Melissa herself for taking time out of her busy schedule to answer these!

#1 Who was your inspiration to become a womens wrestler? (and a brilliant one at that!).
My Dad (Doug Anderson) was my first inspriation. I grew up watching him and my uncle (Bill Anderson) wrestle and attending live events together. I always enjoyed the challenge and athleticism of the in ring work. However, growing up I also loved the showman ship and glamor of Sherry Martel. Very addicting!

#2 Is there any wrestlers that you would like to work with that you haven’t yet?
Actually, I’ve been wanting to work with Ayumi for a while now. I wrestled on the same shows with her in Japan a while back and was secretly hoping that I would finally get a match with her. Hopefully one day!

#3 As far as training goes, what does it consist of for someone that’s completely fresh? I feel you’re the best person to ask, being that you have extensive training from both Japan and the United States. From what I gathered (which is not much), dojos in Japan are strict and efficient, but I’m searching for the details—the nitty-gritty, so to speak. I’m doing research for one of my stories and any information will be greatly appreciated.
When I was there months at a time, we lived in a dorm room on the second floor of the dojo. When your new, part of the duties are maintenance of the ring and facility inside and out. It also included taking care of the talent during shows like transporting their
lugguage, errands, and even cooking for them after training. That’s just a little bit right there.

#4 Do you think there’s still anything for you to learn? Any move you want to learn? Any aspect you want to improve on?
You’re always learning in the business because the business is always changing. I personally would love to train with Finlay again. I got to workout with him a little bit during WWE workout sessions. Very brilliant!

#5 Eat an Amazing Bomb, Fisherman Buster, CB4 Driver or Royal Butterfly?
Lol! None! But if I had to choose: Royal Butterfly

#6 Unfortunately you only got to face one of the Joshi girls this weekend, that being said, what did you think of her?
She was great to work with and was neat to talk to her and the other girls because we were all trained my Mariko.

#7 So you did make an appearance on WWE once in a match against Victoria. Is there any future plans we could be seeing you in a WWE ring again?
At the moment, no. But never say never. The business is always changing.

#8 After International assault being canceled, do you have other other plans to come to Australia?
I would love to come to Austraila and hope to have something worked out this year.

#9 If ARSION was still around, do you think you’d be making more trips to Japan?
Yes, I think so.

#10 Can you tell us something or things that would piss you off in a match, watching and wrestling?
Yes… Having lights go out during a match. No fun in the dark!

#11 What songs do you currently have on your playlist?
A lot!!! Lol. But loving the Fame Monster Lady Gaga album right now. My music changes a lot.

#12 Do you have any airport horror stories you’d like to share?
Airports are crazy. The worst is lugging around broken luggage or flying injured. Neither are fun.

#13 So we need you to be our tie breaker in this ongoing favorite food dispute between Kristine and Shirlz of Melina-Unlimited.Net. Do you prefer Sushi or Indian? Nikki Roxx answered this question and said Indian, Gail Kim said Sushi and Melina said both. Its
two on two so whats it going to be, Sushi or Indian?
Sushi!

First and foremost, on the behalf of the M-A.org Team, we would like to once again wish Melissa a happy birthday! I came across this amazing article earlier highlighting Melissa’s 10 year wrestling career. It is definitely worth a read, and it features interviews with Dave Prazak, Allison Danger, and LuFisto!

Change, a lot of change happens over a decade. Men walk on the moon, a tiny cube made up of little coloured squares takes over pop culture and in the nineties we got Springer. But also in the nineties we were given the in ring exploits of Melissa Anderson.

No? Maybe you know her by…Alissa Flash? Still nothing?

Raisha Saeed, Cheerleader Melissa, or even Wildfire? If the answer is still no, then let this piece take you through a decade of dominance: the story of the future legend.

Making her in-ring debut in on her birthday in 1999, Melissa Anderson has garnered support from fans across the world with her unique blend of hard-hitting strikes and technical manoeuvres.

Her wrestling isn’t all that has garnered her the status as one of the greatest independent talents, but also her character portrayal. From a Syrian manager to a cheerleader, Anderson is a thespian in every sense of the word.

How many performers in professional wrestling can state they have the ability to effortlessly pull double duty on a show? Some names that spring to mind are Christopher Daniels and Mick Foley. This shows the category some people place her in, but are they right to do so?

Anderson began her career as the “Cheerleader” to the Ballard Brothers (Shane and Shannon) and managed them on the many occasions. She would continually interfere in their matches, which gained her great heat from the crowds.

However when The Ballards moved over to work APW independent shows, she received training from another independent legend and arguably the greatest professional wrestler alive, Bryan Danielson.

This training, along with ever-growing experience through her ringside role, Anderson was able to get into the ring on her 17th birthday for the first time.

Given this opportunity, she was able to take on Lexie Fyfe (now part of The Experience with Malia Hosaka.)

However it wasn’t until two years after, that she began to hone her craft on an overseas trip to the ARSION promotion in Japan. Amongst her matches she had said that one of her favourites was with Mariko Yoshida which took place on Aug. 25 2002.

This match, despite a tentative Melissa, was a great showing of the talent that Yoshida had and it clearly rubbed off on Anderson.

In 2004, Anderson received The Future Legend Award. This award has been given to the likes of Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit which shows the ability and impact Melissa has made within her whelm of wrestling. Also being presented the award in front of her father a former wrestler in his own right must have filled herself with pride beyond belief. This is a great honour from which a talent has to be nominated in order to achieve the award. Read More?
